Benedict Cumberbatch Appears Eccentric and Fragile in Louis Wain Biopic

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch appears eccentric and fragile in his role as Louis Wain, an English painter, in the biopic “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.” What and how was the film?

The name Louis Wain is not very popular, but his brightly colored paintings featuring various cheerful, human-like cats are considered iconic. The British artist who was considered strange but very talented lived in an extraordinary time at the turn of the century. In the biopic “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain”, the painter is depicted as contributing to raising the image of cats in England. Through his paintings in newspapers and other media, Wain succeeded in popularizing cats as pets. Previously, cats were considered only wild animals in England.

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch plays Wain who has a unique way of walking and talking.

"Initially, I trained with a body movement trainer, then trained with director Will Sharpe to create the kind of weird moves that are repeated at the beginning and end of the film and show the joy of falling in love with Emily," said Cumberbatch.

Wain falls in love with Emily Richardson, a nanny, played by Claire Foy. In the film, Emily is portrayed as someone who can really understand Wain and accept his eccentric style.

Wain was born in 1860 and at the turn of the century, he became famous for his anthropomorphic cat paintings that graced the pages of popular magazines.

When his father died, he became the head of the family and the breadwinner for his five sisters even though he was still in his early 20s.

While researching the story of Wain's life, director Will Sharpe was fascinated by the artist and wanted to share his story with a wider audience.

"I think he is more than just a historical figure. I really understand him as a human being. I feel there is some kind of connection to his paintings. pong, badminton or whatever," he said.

"Sometimes you can see the message or the details behind that vulnerability. The more I read about him and his life, the more I feel he is someone who really had an extraordinary life. I found his life story very inspiring." he.

The film “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain” also stars Andrea Roseborough, Toby Jones, Nick Cave and Taika Waititi, with Olivia Colman as the narrator. The film has been playing in theaters across America since October 22 and can be watched online via Amazon starting November 5.
